Pamporovo is situated in the interior of the Rhodopes Mountain at 1650 meters above sea level, at the foot of Mount Snezhanka. It is situated in the territory of Smolyan municipality and Chepelare municipality, about 220 km away from Sofia, 85 km south of Plovdiv, 15 km north of Smolyan and 10 km south of Chepelare.
The climate in Pamporovo is characterized by a mild winter with over 100 sunny days. The resort ranks first in sunny days among all mountain resorts in Bulgaria. The average annual temperature is 5.5 º C. The main tourist flow to Pamporovo is during the winter months because the resort is mainly adapted for ski sports. Almost all the ski slopes in the resort start from Snezhanka Mount, with their altitude ranging from 1926 meters to 1400 meters. The tourist season begins in December and lasts almost until the end of April. Because of the beautiful scenery, the area is visited by tourists during the summer months.
Snezhanka Mount is one of the hundred national tourist sites of the Bulgarian Tourist Union. From 2012 on the territory of the Pamporovo resort there is also a specialized mountain biking park and today it is the largest in the Balkans.
In Pamporovo biking park annual international competitions of the highest class are held. Today, the Mechi Chall area also operates and the park has over 50 km of routes and mountain biking routes for all ages and for people with different skills.
The ski slopes in the mountain resort have different levels of difficulty. Greens and blues are great for beginners, and blacks are a unique adventure for professional skiers. The length of all tracks is 37 kilometers and they are suitable for ski running and snowboarding. In 2004, in Pamporovo was built the first in Bulgaria half-pipe track which is a real challenge for all snowboarders. Night skiing in the resort is available on the ski slope The Wall -2 from 17:30h to 22:00h. The facilities that reach the various slopes have a capacity of 11600 people per hour. The lifts are 9 and the chair lifts are 6. This provides the fast and easy movement of the tourists to their desired ski tracks.
