Sandanski is a town in Southwestern Bulgaria, Blagoevgrad District and administrative center of Sandanski Municipality, where the town of Melnik appertains.
It is believed that Spartacus from the Thracian tribe Medi was born in the region of Sandanski.
The monument of Spartak is one of the symbols of the town.
The town is located in the Sandansko-Petrich valley at the foot of the Pirin Mountain. At 12 km from Sandanski is located the Rupite area with the temple „St. Petka” built by the fortune-teller of Petrich town Baba Vanga.
